Transform Your Future with Renaissance Career Institute

If you're considering a career in nursing, deciding on the type of nurse to become is an initial step. Many aspiring nurses opt for the Registered Nurse (RN) pathway.   RNs are medically trained professionals who care for patients. These initials are used for individuals who have completed the necessary schooling and passed the required NCLEX examination. Becoming an RN is a lifelong aspiration for some. It takes hard work and dedication to make it happen.

Learn About RN Careers

What is an RN

An RN (Registered Nurse) is a licensed professional that administers hands-on care to patients in a variety of healthcare settings. An RN has passed the NCLEX and is licensed by either an individual state or has an enhanced nursing compact license (eNLC). RNs can specialize in many different fields and have the opportunity to advance their education.

What Do RNs Do

Registered Nurses (RNs) have a wide range of duties and responsibilities, including administering and monitoring medications, admitting and discharging patients, assisting with activities of daily living such as feeding, dressing, and bathing, and coordinating with other healthcare providers. They develop and implement nursing care plans, educate patients and families about disease processes and diagnoses, insert and manage IV catheters, perform both basic and advanced life support, conduct physical examinations, monitor vital signs and recognize abnormalities, prepare patients for procedures and surgeries, provide emotional support, review and maintain medical records, and supervise and orient new nurses and nursing students.

What Skills Do RNs Need

RNs must interact effectively with doctors, patients, families, and other healthcare professionals, necessitating strong communication skills to convey critical information clearly and empathetically. Good bedside manners are essential for providing care and offering comfort to patients. The most dedicated RNs possess a true passion for helping others.

As an RN, robust organizational skills are also essential. Nursing is a demanding, fast-paced profession that relies on efficient information management and multitasking. Without a solid organizational system, the risk of becoming overwhelmed and making errors increases.

Most crucially, RNs must tolerate blood, bodily fluids, and various aspects of human anatomy they will encounter. This role is not suited for everyone, and recognizing one's own limitations is vital.

How to Become an RN

1. Enroll & Complete a Degree in Nursing

RCI's ADN program prepares students to provide safe and effective care of the client across their lifespan. This program is approved by the Florida Board of Nursing.

2. Take & Pass the NCLEX-RN Exam

Before you can start working as an RN you must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN exam). At RCI our programs are designed to prepare you to successfully challenge the NCLEX-RN.

3. Start your RN Career

You can start applying for RN jobs and begin your career as an RN. Our team can support you with your job search.

Career Outlook

For those seeking to forge a rewarding career in nursing, becoming an RN is a viable option.

The demand for RNs is expected the grow by 6% (faster the average) by 2032.

In 2023, the median annual salary for an RN, as reported by the BLS, was $86,070.
